This is an enhanced satellite imagery map of Alaska created using Multi-Resolution Land Charachteristics 2001 (MRLC) imagery, draped with the National Elevation Dataset (NED) data. It includes principal cities.
The largest of the 50 U.S. states; more coastline than all other U.S. states combined; more volcanoes than any other state, half of the world's glaciers (over 100,000 of them), more than three million lakes, enormous marshlands and wetland permafrost and much more. All these can be seen in this map. Notable features include the Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands chain, the Alaska Peninsula, The Bering Glacier, Unimak Island, home to Mount Shishaldin, which is an occasionally smoldering volcano, the Bering Sea, the Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea.
