Print Media and Mounting Options
We offer the following options for mounting your map.
Giclee (zhee-CLAY) is the use of an ink-jet printing process for making fine art, large format, digital images.
We print on 10 mil. (0.25mm) premium luster photo paper, producing vivid life-like images using Epson UltraChrome K3 ink, providing lightfastness ratings of up to 108 years for color under rigorous industry accepted display conditions. Giclees are superior to traditional lithography in several ways: the colors are brighter, last longer and images are higher resolution.
Prints are available up to 60” wide by any length and usually have a 1” white border included. For example a 24x34 print will be 26x36 when the white border is included.
Starting with a Giclee print on Premium Glossy paper, a 10 mil (0.25mm), soft, non glare, UV matte laminate is applied by heat and pressure in a heat-press. It protects the print from moisture, UV degradation and damage from handling and is ideal for archival use. This laminated Giclee print is dry mounted onto medium density fiberboard (MDF) with dry mount tissue sandwiched in between. It is sealed under heat and pressure and finished with a taped beveled edge. The final result is a non-glare, easy to clean, professional, museum quality product. Any glass cleaner and a soft cloth can be used to clean the surface.
A “Box” type Plaque Mount, described above has a 2”x1” frame attached at the rear to provide deep sides and to eliminate any warping. The MDF is 1/8” thick. See images below.
Fired/Glazed tiles: The digital ceramic printing technology we use to produce digital images on ceramic tile is the most advanced system in the world for printing with ceramic chemistry. These are true ceramic images which are kiln fired to over 1600° Fahrenheit. They are scratch proof, heat resistant and suitable for installation in the kitchen, the shower wall, outdoors or even in your swimming pool. These tiles are available in 4" square and 8" square sizes.
